Whether you’re selling office equipment or houses, the most important thing to remember is customer service. I’ve come to realize that I’m not only selling a product, I’m selling trust. If your client doesn’t trust you, believe me, he’ll find someone he can.

Help Your Clients Build Trust

There are certain rules I follow to help gain a clients trust. The first rule is to not make promises you can’t keep. If you tell a client you’ll do something, you had better be prepared to produce results and remember it’s not always wrong to say, “I can’t.” If a client asks you to do something that isn’t plausible, I’ve found that if you tell them that what they want is not possible, they take that a lot better than if you promise and don’t produce.

 The second rule is to listen to the client. When a client is talking, give them your 100% undivided attention. Always remember when talking to a client, at that point, their concerns are your concerns. Ask questions or make comments in reference to what they said. That way they’ll have no doubt that you not only listened but understood what they said.

Another rule I have is to have fun. Remember, you’ve got the best job in the world. You get paid to go out and talk and meet new people. I’ve always said how can you beat this, I’m getting paid to BS with people. And always remember, you’ve got to build their trust and be able to keep it.

A person who has a bad experience with you will tell ten people about their experience with you, while a person that was treated right will only tell one or two, so it’s very important to keep your promises.
